The balance is the heart of any mechanical movement and the balance staff is the one part that, if worn or damaged, your movement will not work, whatever you do to it. If you are having your chronograph serviced, do your favour and change the balance staff. If your watch is not yet up for a service, get one now and keep it with your watch for when it needs it, as these parts are not easy to find and quickly becoming unavailable, anywhere you look.
