1960’s VETTA ‘Competition’ Vintage Sport Diver Watch – 25j Vetta Cal. 783 (2783)

Out of stock

A lovely sport diver watch from the 1970’s by VETTA in all original condition, this ‘Competition’ model has been professionally inspected by Localtime.

The stainless steel case has not been polished, houses a 25j automatic Vetta Cal. 783 (ETA Cal. 2783 base) with date and measures in at a hearty 39.50mm or 41mm including the crown at 3h. The stunning dial, original lume and hands are stunning. It is not uncommon to see this effect on 1960’s watches with blue dials, a lovely patina, just stunning and unique. It is wearing a 19mm handmade Italian premium calf leather strap in blue. These straps come in many colours and I sell them separately in my store, under eBay item number 202481981474.

As with all the watches that are handled by Localtime, the listed price includes a written 6-month written warranty from the date of purchase. Feel free to contact me for whatever questions you might have.

Extra: Try my Localtime Tropic-style silicone rubber straps: Let’s face it, we all wish we could use the vintage, original type, but they are nowhere to be found anymore. If you do find them, they are very expensive or dry and stiff if they were not properly kept all these years. Not to mention the fact that 22 & 24mm are really rare as hen teeth. I have found these straps to be a good alternative to the vintage tropic straps and very comfortable. They come in 4 sizes [18-20-22-24mm] and with 2 smooth, floating keepers. The straps themselves are black and have a nice tropic pattern on them. Their length is 85mm on the buckle end [including the steel buckle] and 120mm on the tail end; so not short but not too long either. I will include a pair of good quality speed pins too. You can see them in the last photo here and/or purchase them separately under eBay item 132475721565. Feel free to contact me for whatever questions you might have.

Important Note:¬†Sometimes I am asked what I exactly mean with ‘professionally inspected by Localtime’. Here is my theory on vintage watches: as a purveyor of vintage watches, my effort is to always do only what is needed to the watch. I do not buy ‘junk’ watches to resell. I am choosy with my purchases and always sell watches that are, to my knowledge, authentic and in good condition. I first inspect the watch, both visually (cosmetically) and then mechanically. If I judge that the watch is not yet in need of a full service then I do not put the watch through a service which, by the way, entails a lot of risks too. Instead, I give it what I call my ‘Spa’ treatment which will include a cleaning, changing of gaskets, oiling, lubricating and mechanical testing. If the plexi is heavily scratched or discoloured and it can not be cleaned, I change it. If the crown is wrong or worn, I also change it. Now, if the watch is in need of a full service, then my ‘professionally inspected’ description becomes ‘professionally serviced’. In both cases, I include a written warrantee with my buy it now price and I always describe what I have changed, if anything, on the watch.

Important Note On Straps/Bracelets: The straps I use on my watches [leather, canvas, suede, rubber] are always brand new, unless otherwise mentioned and, in most cases, I also sell them separately in my store, in different colours and sizes. In the case of metal bracelets, if the watch is NOS, the bracelet is also unused. If the watch is pre-owned with its original bracelet, then the bracelet is also pre-owned, unless otherwise mentioned. Either way, if in doubt, please ask.
