Definitely a unique and different LEONIDAS Swiss [pre-Heuer] chronograph watch, this rare 1940’s piece has been professionally restored and fully serviced in-house here at our Localtime Spa.
It is absolutely 100% original, with no foreign parts, in excellent condition throughout and ready to proudly wear or join your collection. The 34mm [48mm long lug-to-lug] swivel [drivers’] lugs case is in excellent unpolished condition. The dial and blue hands are a feast to the eyes, especially the ‘windmill’ [or “propeller-style”] 4-paddle hand at the 9h sub-dial [sweep seconds hand]. We have made many photos, including snapshots from the restoration and some closeup snapshots we took, just for fun. This lovely chronograph is fitted with a black calf leather strap. As with all the watches we restore in-house here at Localtime, this too will arrive to you with a written 6-month written warrantee from the date of purchase. Feel free to contact us for whatever questions you might have.
Driver’s watches were popular in the 30’s-50’s period and were called so because of their swivel lugs. The owner would wear the watch normally on the top of the wrist when not driving, but would turn the watch on the side of his wrist while driving. The swivel lugs would then wrap around his wrist-side for better comfort and allowed the driver to see the time or check the chronograph-timing without taking his arms off the steering wheel.
